Wine Description for Le Haut-Lieu sec 2023 375ml by Huet

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, pale golden yellow – clear and inviting in the glass.
Nose
Still youthful and slightly closed, this Vouvray unfolds with remarkable depth after aeration: brioche and fine yeast notes form the opening chapter, before apple, quince, pear and citrus take centre stage. These are joined by linden blossom, dry hay and a hint of mushroom – that distinctly earthy depth which makes great Chenin Blanc unmistakable. In the background shimmer spice notes of anise and cardamom.
Palate
On the palate, the wine reveals its finest side: taut and mineral, yet carried by a creamy, almost silky texture. The vibrant, precise acidity is masterfully woven into the fruit – not a contradiction, but a perfect symbiosis. A fine, almost tannic grip lends the wine structure and tension.
Finish
Long, saline-mineral and marked by great freshness. The aftertaste recalls damp limestone – a telltale sign of its origin from the legendary tuffeau soils of Vouvray.
Terroir & Origin
The Haut-Lieu is one of the oldest and most renowned vineyard sites of the Huet estate in Vouvray on the Loire. The deep tuffeau and limestone soils impart to the wine that unmistakable minerality which has made Vouvray world-famous.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Chenin Blanc, farmed biodynamically according to the principles of Domaine Huet – one of the Loire’s reference estates. The dry style (sec) at 13.0% vol. emphasises the tension between fruit, acidity and minerality.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal companion to Loire goat’s cheese, sweetbreads, crayfish or grilled zander fillet. Also a revelation with creamy risottos or white asparagus with hollandaise sauce.
Special Features
The half-bottle (375 ml) allows you to enjoy this complex wine in a young, fresh state – yet it possesses the potential to age over many years and develop even greater depth. A milestone of Chenin Blanc.
