Wine Description for Gorca Haloze 2023 by Vino Gross

Character
The Gorca Haloze 2023 by Vino Gross is a dry white wine with moderate alcohol content of 12.5% vol., embodying the quiet elegance of Slovenian wine culture. Not a loud wine seeking to impress through power – rather one that convinces through precision, minerality and authenticity of origin. A wine that invites contemplation.
Terroir & Origin
The Haloze are the heart of Styrian Slovenia (Štajerska Slovenija) – a gently rolling hillside region in north-eastern Slovenia, geologically and climatically closely related to Austria’s South Styria. The steep loess soils and clay-marl terraces of this region lend the wines a characteristic tension between ripe fruit and vibrant acidity. The continental climate with warm summers and cool nights favours slow, aromatically differentiated ripening – ideal conditions for a wine with depth and expression.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Furmint is one of Central Europe’s most fascinating white grape varieties – in Slovenia known as Šipon, deeply rooted in the regional identity of Štajerska. The variety naturally brings pronounced acidity structure, texture and ageing potential. With Vino Gross, one can expect careful, artisanal winemaking that presents the variety in its clear, unadorned form – without excess oak or technical intervention. The vintage 2023, warm and sun-blessed across much of Central Europe, should have given the wine a certain fullness, elegantly balanced by Furmint’s natural acidity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The vibrant structure and dry style make this wine a versatile table companion. Recommended with grilled freshwater fish, pike-perch fillet with herb butter or risotto with wild herbs. It also reveals its qualities alongside poultry dishes with light sauces or a cheese board with mild alpine cheeses. A wine that accompanies table conversation – without dominating it.
