Wine Description for „Clos de Vougeot“ Grand Cru AOC 2022 by Hubert Lignier

Character
Hubert Lignier’s Clos de Vougeot embodies classic Burgundian elegance with the combination of power and finesse typical of this legendary Grand Cru. The 2022 vintage, shaped by summer heat and precise harvest timing, displays concentration whilst remaining fresh. As one of the smaller, quality-conscious producers in Clos de Vougeot, Lignier impressively expresses the complexity and depth of this historic vineyard site.
Terroir & Origin
Clos de Vougeot, at 50 hectares, is the largest Grand Cru vineyard site in the Côte de Nuits and looks back on a centuries-old Cistercian winemaking tradition. The calcareous clay soils and gentle slope lend the wines their characteristic structure. Lignier’s parcel benefits from optimal exposure and old vines that guarantee concentration and minerality. Burgundy’s 2022 is characterised by a warm, dry summer that produced small berries with intense aromas.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir finds ideal conditions in Clos de Vougeot to express its full character. The Lignier family works with traditional Burgundian methods: gentle hand-harvesting, partial whole-bunch fermentation, moderate use of new oak barrels. The focus lies on terroir authenticity rather than excessive extraction. At 13.5% alcohol, the wine shows balance without the modern overripeness of many Burgundy wines. The vinification aims for elegance, structure and longevity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this calibre demands equally refined companions: duck breast with cherry sauce, venison loin or Coq au Vin harmonise beautifully. The Clos de Vougeot also reveals its full class alongside aged Époisses or other Burgundian cheeses. Braised beef with mushrooms or pigeon underscore the earthy, complex notes of this Grand Cru.
