Wine description for Saumur Champigny rouge AOC 2022 by Guiberteau

Character
A wine that embodies the Loire Valley in its purest form: lean, precise and characterised by vibrant freshness. With just 12.5% alcohol and virtually no residual sugar, this Saumur Champigny stands for that type of elegant, eminently drinkable red wine that refreshingly stands apart in a world of over-extraction. Guiberteau is among the most renowned addresses in the Saumurois and vouches for artisanal precision and a clear philosophy: the wine should speak, not the winemaker.
Terroir & Origin
Saumur Champigny lies in the heart of the middle Loire, east of Saumur, and owes its character to the famous tuffeau limestone subsoil – the so-called Tuffeau. This porous, cooling limestone stores water and regulates soil temperature, giving the wines a natural minerality and freshness that scarcely any other terroir in France produces in this way. The 2022 vintage, marked by warmth and an early summer, demanded precise vineyard work from the finest winemakers – those who harvested early and selectively were able to bring ripeness and freshness into harmonious balance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Cabernet Franc is no compromise in the Loire, but rather the soul of the region. In the Saumurois it reveals its refined, cool side: aromatically multi-layered, with characteristic spice, fine tannins and a texture that favours transparency over power. Guiberteau works with organic farming methods and places great emphasis on gentle maturation that puts terroir centre stage. The result is wines that possess depth without appearing heavy.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The vibrant acidity and fine tannin structure make this wine a versatile table companion. Classically it harmonises with Rillettes de Tours, Loire Valley goat’s cheese or a Poulet rôti aux herbes. Equally recommended with grilled salmon, lamb rack with herb crust or mushroom risotto. A wine that does not dominate but accompanies – and thus understands the highest art of gastronomy.
