Wine description for Saumur blanc Brézé AOC 2022 by Guiberteau

Character
A white wine of remarkable tension and precision, embodying the quiet grandeur of the Loire Valley. Romain Guiberteau belongs to those winemakers who speak not loudly, but convincingly – through wines that place minerality and depth above opulence. The Brézé is not a wine that imposes itself; it opens with time and attention.
Terroir & Origin
Brézé is an extraordinary site within the Saumur blanc appellation: a natural crater of volcanic origin, whose soils consist of tuff and limestone – deep, cool and of a character that communicates itself immediately in the glass. The microclimate of this vineyard site lends the wines a characteristic cool elegance and a pronounced acidity structure, which gives the 2022 vintage – despite the warmth of that summer in the Loire – a refreshing definition. The 2022 vintage was sunny and dry, yet the natural freshness of the Brézé soils skilfully tempers the ripeness.
Grape variety & Vinification
Chenin Blanc is one of the world’s most versatile white grape varieties – and nowhere does it show its dry, serious side more convincingly than in the Saumurois. Guiberteau vinifies his Brézé with the respect that great vineyard sites deserve: hand-harvesting, gentle processing and an ageing that allows the terroir to speak without overworking it. With 12.5% alcohol and a dry profile, the wine remains lean and purposeful – a stylistic choice, not by chance.
Food pairing suggestions
The lively acidity and mineral density of the Brézé make it an ideal companion for river fish such as pike-perch or trout, classically prepared with butter and herbs. It also harmonises beautifully with Loire goat’s cheese – such as Crottin de Chavignol – or with elegant seafood like scallops. Those who drink it on its own should give it time in the glass: it belongs to those wines that open up when you wait.
