Colour & appearance

Intense golden yellow, dense and luminous in the glass – a hue that visually heralds the ripeness and concentration of this Chardonnay.

Nose

Powerful and multi-layered: nutty, smoky and vanilla notes meet intense fruit of orange and vineyard peach. The minerality practically leaps from the glass, lending depth and complexity to the bouquet.

Palate

Terroir & origin

The Darscho comes from Apetlon on Lake Neusiedl, where the Pannonian climate, with hot, dry summers and cold winters, creates extreme conditions. The vines – between 20 and 40 years old – are rooted in deeper limestone and gravel soils with a sandy component. Darscho refers to one of the small shallow lakes that define the exceptional microclimate of the Seewinkel region.

Grape variety & vinification

Chardonnay, spontaneously fermented with wild yeasts and aged in Burgundian oak barrels. Heinz Velich works with minimal yields, selects meticulously and eschews oenological interventions – patience in the cellar is a fundamental principle here, not a marketing slogan.

Food recommendations

A wine for substantial dishes: pan-fried turbot with beurre blanc, saddle of veal with morel jus, roasted cauliflower with tahini or mature Comté. Also a first-class choice with guinea fowl in cream sauce.

The magnum bottle slows the maturation process and preserves the freshness of this powerful Chardonnay for years. Compared to the tauter Tiglat, the Darscho shows greater fruit density and texture – without sacrificing the clarity typical of Velich.
