Wine description for Riesling Marienburg Kabinett VDP Grosse Lage 2023 from Clemens Busch

Terroir & origin

The Marienburg is not just a single vineyard - it is a mosaic of different slate soils that stretches along the steep slopes of the Moselle near Pünderich. Clemens Busch, one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture on the Moselle, cultivates this VDP Grand Cru site with a deep understanding of its geological diversity. The south-facing terraces catch the sunlight perfectly, while the river acts as a temperature regulator and ensures the characteristic freshness of the wines.

Character

The 2023 cabinet represents the Classic lightness from the Moselle with a moderate 7.5% alcohol and a finely balanced residual sweetness that gives the wine structure without making it appear heavy. The 2023 vintage produced a remarkable combination of ripeness and acidity structure on the Moselle - ideal conditions for a precise Kabinett.

What characterises this wine is the Mineral transparencywhich is typical of Busch's interpretation of the slate terroir. No technical tricks are used here, but rather patience and respect for the natural product. The spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, which Busch practises consistently, gives the wine additional complexity and depth.

Winemaking philosophy

Clemens and Rita Busch are among the pioneers of natural viticulture on the Moselle. They have not used herbicides or pesticides since the 1980s and have been working biodynamically since 2005. This dedication to sustainability is reflected in the Authenticity of their wines Reflected. The Marienburg Kabinett is not a constructed wine, but an honest expression of its origins.

Food pairing suggestions

The moderate sweetness and vibrant acidity predestine this Kabinett as an accompaniment to Asian dishes with a slight spiciness. It also harmonises well with seafood, especially oysters or ceviche. In German cuisine, it finds its place alongside asparagus with hollandaise or a tarte flambée with goat's cheese.

A wine that respects the tradition of the Mosel Kabinett and at the same time bears the unmistakable signature of one of the best winegrowers in the region.
