Wine information

The Negre de Negres, i.e. a Noir de Noirs, is a cuvee of Garnacha tinta, Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet, all of which grow in the Clos del Portal. The vines are 20 to 60 years old and stand on Llicorella soils at an altitude of 260 to 370 metres. The grapes were harvested between September 2nd and October 2nd. The wine was then aged in large French wood. For Alfredo Arribas, this wine is an estate wine, which establishes the link between tradition and modernity of the Priorat.

Without hesitation, the nose of this wine promises a trip to Priorat. The coming together of southern varieties such as Grenache, Carignan and Syrah with the added Cabernet, the warmth and expression of the Llicorella slate weathered rock form a fragrance that is hard to find anywhere else. It is the rich dark fruit that combines with notes of elderberry and cranberry, juniper, stone, dark chocolate, smoke, liquorice and a slight cedar note, but above all a mineral coolness that should resonate in the background of any Priorat wine made on Llicorella.


The palate shows a wonderful density of ripe and rich dark fruit (blackberries, cassis, blueberries), violets, blood orange, graphite, earth, dark chocolate, a grippy tannin that nevertheless leads to a thoroughly silky texture as well as a wonderfully lively freshness. The Negre de Negres is a flatterer in the best sense. It wraps the palate, spoils it and makes happy; because it combines the soft, the silky and the juicy fruit at any time with a punchy, grippy component that provides precision and clarity.
