In his first life, Enric Soler was a well-known Spanish sommelier in Barcelona. He therefore knew a lot about wine when he was given a vineyard of around 1.5 hectares by his late grandfather in 2004. It was not just any vineyard, but the one with perhaps the oldest Xarel-lo vines in the Penedès, planted in 1945. The vineyard is secluded between two hills in Sabanell. Its name, Taus, led to Enric Soler's first wine, Vinya dels Taus, which became probably the best-known single-varietal Xarel-lo. At the time, hardly anyone had ever vinified the grape variety as a single variety; it was almost always reserved for cava. In the meantime, Enric and his wife Mercé have planted a second plot of Sélection Massale des Taus right next to the vineyard and have also grafted a plot of Xarel-lo onto old roots at an altitude of 500 metres in the Alto Penedès, where otherwise only Parellada is grown.
