The name Blanc d’Argile – „white clay“ – is programmatic: the vines are rooted in Kimmeridgian clay soils, the same limestone clay stone that brings mineral depth to Chablis and Sancerre. These soils impart a distinctive, almost saline minerality to the wine and a cool austerity that sets it clearly apart from Champagnes from chalk soils. Gautherot works biodynamically – the vineyards are certified by Demeter – and understands his work as a dialogue with the soil, not an intervention.

- Pure Chardonnay from biodynamic viticulture forms the foundation of this Champagne. Vinification follows a minimalist approach: spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, no use of sulphur beyond the absolutely necessary minimum, no fining agents. The absence of dosage in the Brut Nature is not a marketing decision here, but a consistent philosophy – the wine is meant to speak, not to be embellished.
