Pinot Meunier
Pinot Meunier, known in German-speaking regions as Müllerrebe, owes its name to the fine, flour-like down on its leaves. Long valued primarily as a reliable blending partner in the background, this variety reveals a wonderfully juicy fruit and fine spice. It brings notes of red wild berries, rosehips and a subtle, earthy bitterness to the glass, which pairs excellently with fine pâtés or matured mountain cheese.
In Champagne, this potential is demonstrated particularly impressively. The estate de Bichery bottles the variety as a single-varietal, expressive Saignée Rosé, while Jeaunaux-Robin uses it to lend richness and depth to classic cuvées. That the Müllerrebe also convinces as a still wine is proven by the winery M. Schädler - Steffen Mugler in the Palatinate, where it unfolds an animating freshness in their Blanc de Noir.
