Wine Description for „Clos de la Roche“ Grand Cru AOC 2022 3000ml Double Magnum by Hubert Lignier

Character
The Clos de la Roche from Hubert Lignier represents Burgundian Grand Cru vinification in its most concentrated form. The double magnum with a 3-litre capacity promises not only an impressive presence on the table, but also extraordinary ageing potential. Lignier, one of the respected addresses in Morey-Saint-Denis, stands for precise, terroir-driven Pinot Noirs that prioritise elegance over power. The 2022 vintage is considered challenging in Burgundy, but promising for winemakers who work with a delicate touch.
Terroir & Origin
The Clos de la Roche is one of the most prestigious Grand Crus of the Côte de Nuits and lies at the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis. The vineyard site encompasses approximately 16 hectares on calcareous soils with an iron-rich subsoil, which gives the wine its characteristic structure and minerality. The cooler microclimate of this appellation promotes the slow, steady ripening of the grapes and enables that balance between power and finesse for which this Grand Cru is renowned. The easterly aspect of the parcels ensures optimal sun exposure whilst maintaining freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir finds its noblest expression here on Burgundian limestone soils. Hubert Lignier works traditionally with extended maceration and relies on a high proportion of whole-bunch fermentation, which imparts additional aromatic complexity to the wine. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels with a moderate proportion of new wood, so as not to mask the fruit. The 13.5% alcohol bears witness to the natural balance of the vintage. The large bottle format slows development and promises particularly harmonious maturation over decades.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine of this calibre demands appropriate culinary accompaniment: rare roasted venison or venison loin with lingonberries, Coq au Vin, duck breast with cherry sauce or aged Époisses. Truffle dishes and braised oxtail also harmonise beautifully with the depth and structure of this Grand Cru.
