Gamay

Gamay is pure vibrancy in a glass. Originally native to Burgundy, this grape variety yields a juicy, red-berried fruitiness, supported by an animating acidity and fine tannins. It boasts aromas of fresh wild berries, peonies, and subtle spice. Vinified as a single varietal in Beaujolais by the Bret Brothers, it shows an infectious, earthy drinkability, while Boris Champy coaxes out the cool minerality of old vines in the Burgundian Hautes-Côtes.

The variety also proves its versatility as a partner to Pinot Noir, to which it lends freshness and youthful charm, as can be experienced at the Trapet Père & Fils estate. Even in the South West, it shows an experimental streak: at Clos Troteligotte, it blends with Gibert and Jurançon in a rosé to create a refreshingly independent character.
