Wine Description for Julienas Climat „La Bottière“ Zen AOC 2022 by Bret Brothers

Colour & Appearance
Pale, transparent garnet red – a wine that reveals its origins and philosophy visually from the outset. The clarity and luminosity speak to an unadorned, authentic Beaujolais.
Nose
The bouquet unfolds a seductive fruit palette of sweet cherries, raspberries and richly ripe plums. Floral notes of roses and violets lend the wine an elegant complexity, whilst meadow herbs and subtle liquorice provide additional aromatic depth.
Palate
On the palate, the influence of the clayey subsoil becomes apparent: a round, fleshy texture with fine-grained tannins carries the wine. The dark, juicy fruit of cherries and stewed plums is accompanied by savoury notes of pips and skins as well as liquorice. This is the most substantial and structured Beaujolais in the Bret Brothers collection – a wine with grip and character.
Finish
The finish remains fruity and present, with a pleasant spiciness that invites the next sip. The balance between fruit and structure persists to the end.
Terroir & Origin
The tiny 0.5-hectare parcel „La Bottière“ sits at 260 metres altitude with south-west exposure. The granite soil with deep clayey topsoil gives the wine its characteristic fullness and texture – atypical for many lighter Beaujolais.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Gamay, harvested on 22 August 2022. The grapes underwent a ten-day carbonic maceration as whole bunches, followed by ten months‘ maturation in older Burgundian pièces. Bottled unfiltered and unrefined. pH: 3.51, total sulphur: just 29 mg/l – a commitment to minimalist intervention.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The fleshy structure harmonises perfectly with not-too-spicy tacos, mole chicken or paneer tikka. The wine pairs well with spicy, aromatic cuisine and proves itself a versatile food companion.
Special Features
This is the most powerful Beaujolais in the Bret Brothers portfolio – a wine that demonstrates Gamay can indeed develop substance and ageing potential on the right soils.
