Wine Description for Bourgogne Côte d’Or Vieilles Vignes AOC 2023 3000ml Double Magnum by Rémi Jobard

Character
Rémi Jobard, scion of one of Meursault’s most renowned winemaking families, vinifies this Bourgogne Côte d’Or from old vines with the precision and restraint that characterise his wines. The designation Vieilles Vignes promises depth and concentration, whilst the imposing double magnum provides optimal conditions for ageing over decades to come. A Chardonnay that unites Burgundian tradition with modern finesse – clearly structured, without over-extraction, with that subtle interplay between fruit and minerality that defines great white Burgundy.
Terroir & Origin
The Côte d’Or – that legendary limestone belt stretching from Dijon to Santenay – provides the geological foundation for this wine. Jobard’s parcels benefit from the calcareous soils and the cool continental character of Burgundy, which lends the Chardonnay its characteristic tension. The 2023 vintage presents itself after a challenging yet ultimately promising growing cycle with good freshness and expressiveness. The regional appellation brings together grapes from various vineyard sites across the Côte d’Or, thus offering an authentic cross-section through this unique terroir.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay in its Burgundian expression – complex, multifaceted, with the ability to translate terroir transparently. Jobard’s signature is evident in measured oak usage and respectful handling of the harvest. The old vines bring natural concentration and depth, whilst traditional vinification with controlled fermentation and moderate ageing preserves the Burgundian essence. The 13.5% alcohol speaks to balance and drinkability, far removed from modern over-ripeness.
Food Pairings
A versatile companion to fine dining: scallops in brown butter, lobster or langoustine, sweetbreads with morels, Poulet de Bresse with cream sauce or aged Comté. The structure also carries more robust fish dishes such as turbot or monkfish. A wine for special occasions, when the double magnum fulfils its convivial purpose.
