Wine Description for Bourgogne Côte d’Or Vieilles Vignes AOC 2020 by Rémi Jobard
- Colour & Appearance
- Medium-intensity straw yellow with lively green reflections – a Burgundy that has retained its youthfulness despite additional bottle ageing.
- Nose
- A fascinating kaleidoscope of Burgundian Chardonnay aromas: orange blossom and white lilac meet green apple skin, accompanied by herbaceous notes such as sorrel and borage. The mineral component is impressively precise – crushed oyster shells and wet slate lend the bouquet that shimmering transparency which makes Meursault’s limestone terroir so unmistakable. With air contact, the wine continues to unfold continuously.
- Palate
- Composed and self-assured, this late release presents itself on the palate. The additional ageing time has given it a remarkable generosity and openheartedness. Powerful with a distinctive foundation, it displays a powdery phenolic character that harmonises perfectly with the pronounced minerality. White nectarine and white redcurrant provide the fruity accents, whilst a cooling acidity and saline character create tension and length.
- Finish
- Ethereally long with a mineral aftertaste carried by salty freshness – a finale that invites the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from old vines in vineyard sites directly adjacent to Meursault, two of them below the Premier Cru site Charmes. The new appellation Bourgogne Côte d’Or guarantees origin from the heart of the Côte d’Or – here with distinctly Meursault-typical limestone terroir character.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Chardonnay from organic viticulture. Rémi Jobard favours 600-litre Stockinger foudre instead of small barriques – for slow oxygen exchange without obtrusive oak notes. The result: crystalline-cut wines with profound minerality. The late release aged for two additional years in the cellar.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Skate wing in lemon-caper butter, chicken in lemon-caper sauce or grilled yellow peppers with caper vinaigrette on crostini – the wine’s salty minerality and cool acidity harmonise perfectly with capers and citrus.
- Special Features
- Late release with two additional years of maturation in the winemaker’s cellar. A Burgundy that offers Premier Cru quality – from one of Meursault’s most consistent organic producers.
