Wine Description for Bourgogne Côte d’Or Vieilles Vignes AOC 2020 by Rémi Jobard
- Colour & Appearance
- Medium-intensity straw yellow with lively green reflections – luminous, clear and of youthful precision.
- Nose
- A fascinating treasure trove that reveals ever greater depth in the large glass with increasing aeration. Orange blossom and white lilac combine with green apple skins, sorrel and borage. Beneath pulses a cool, precise minerality from crushed oyster shells and wet slate. Shimmering, transparent, with fine inner vibration.
- Palate
- Composed and forthcoming at once – this wine makes no empty promises, it delivers them immediately. The attack is forceful with pronounced bass, the texture powdery-phenolic, the minerality marked and mouth-watering. White nectarine and white redcurrant form the fruity backbone, carried by distinctive ripeness and fine melting texture.
- Finish
- The cooling acidity is accelerated by a pronounced saline character and culminates in an ethereal, long mineral aftertaste. Elegant, precise, lingering.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from several vineyard sites immediately adjacent to Meursault, two of them directly below the Premier Cru Charmes. The Bourgogne Côte d’Or AOC is a recently introduced designation that consistently restricts the production zone to the core area of the Côte d’Or – a clear quality signal. The limestone-rich soils of Meursault are at the heart of Jobard’s philosophy.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Chardonnay from old vines, aged in 600-litre Stockinger foudres rather than classic barriques. The larger wood volume serves not for aromatisation, but for controlled, slow oxygen exchange – the result is wines of crystalline precision with deep minerality and fine melting texture. Rémi Jobard’s domaine has been organically certified since 2008.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Ideal with skate wing in lemon-caper butter, chicken in lemon-caper sauce or grilled yellow pepper with caper vinaigrette on crostini. The wine’s acidity and salinity harmonise beautifully with the freshness of citrus and the spice of capers.
- Special Features
- This wine was released as a Late Release and matured for two additional years in Jobard’s cellar – a rare gesture of patience that is directly reflected in the wine’s extraordinary complexity and composure.
