Wine Description for Morei Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2016 1500ml Magnum by Foradori

Colour & Appearance
Intense, dark violet – the colour already reveals the density and concentration of this extraordinary Teroldego. In the magnum bottle, the wine presents itself with youthful freshness and impressive depth.
Nose
The name Morei (Trentino dialect for „dark“) is programmatic: elderberries, sour cherries and perfectly ripened blackberries dominate the aromatic profile. These are joined by nuances of blackcurrant, dates and a subtle note of damp clay – a hint of the mineral origin and amphora ageing.
Palate
Here the true nature of this wine reveals itself: sandpaper-like tannin with electrifying tension, the kind only amphora ageing can produce. Despite its structural power, the wine remains juicy, cool and remarkably vibrant. The mineral component runs through the entire palate with good drive. Slightly tart dark fruits envelop a sweet core – a fascinating dichotomy. At just 12.5% alcohol, elegance rather than opulence is on display here.
Finish
Persistently mineral with fine tannin grip that lingers long. The wine is young and closed – generous decanting is essential to unfold its complexity.
Terroir & Origin
2.5 hectares in the Morei vineyard site in Campo Rotaliano near Mezzolombardo. The stony alluvial flood plain lends the wine its characteristic minerality and freshness – a terroir seemingly made for the autochthonous Teroldego grape.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Teroldego from biodynamic viticulture. The decisive difference: eight months‘ ageing in Spanish cellar amphorae (Tinajas). This ancient method gives the wine its unique texture and vibrancy, something glass bottles or wooden barrels could never achieve.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Roast beef with elderberry and onion reduction, venison fillet with blackberries and blackcurrants, pasta with fresh cheese, figs and walnuts. The dark berry notes and cool minerality harmonise perfectly with game and reduced sauces.
Special Features
Foradori icon in magnum bottle – ideal for ageing. A pioneer of amphora ageing in Italy and a prime example of the renaissance of the Teroldego grape.
