If we look at the colour of this wine, we are met by intense shades of purple, fading into violet in places. Towards the edge, it becomes lighter and reveals a black core.
The 2019 Morei serves up a juicy, unforgettable sour cherry explosion that is still incredibly fresh and youthful, especially after 2 days of opening. In addition to this clear cherry intensity, this wine delights with its beguiling floral hints of lilac and elderberry, interspersed with nuances of marzipan and wild Mediterranean herbs. Despite its fruity youthfulness, however, it has a mineral depth and structure that makes it all the more appealing.
When tasted on the palate, it reveals a mineral, almost cool texture and a refreshing blend of fruit and acidity. Fine, polished tannins and a lively acidity contrast wonderfully with the moderate alcohol content of 12.5Vol%. Still a diamond in the rough now, this wine promises to unfold into an even more harmonious overall experience after a few years of ageing. A few days after opening, it soars even higher. To enjoy it to the full, decant it and serve it slightly chilled in a generous glass.
As for food recommendations, you could go for polenta rounds with redcurrant and cress salad. A spicy sheet cake with Parma ham, tomatoes and spinach could also be a good choice. Alternatively, a crispy roast duck breast with balsamic reduction and cherry soufflé could round off the Morei perfectly.
