Wine Description for Morei Cilindrica Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2016 1500ml Magnum by Foradori
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous violet with purple reflections – a colour depth that impressively justifies the name „Morei“ (dark).
- Nose
- Initially closed and acid-driven, the wine opens with patience to a bouquet of pomegranate juice, cranberries and sour cherries. Red currants join in, accompanied by elderflower juice, a fine herbal spice and mineral notes of burnt clay and chalky earth. The nose promises more coolness than the palate later delivers.
- Palate
- On the palate, a remarkable transformation unfolds: the fruit becomes juicy and dense, appearing riper and darker with a sweet fruit core. The tannin presents itself as refined and rounded, whilst the acidity, despite its presence on the nose, now acts riper and more restrained. It nonetheless lends the wine the necessary tension and vibrancy. A wine that needs time to breathe – then it rewards with wonderful harmony.
- Finish
- Persistent with mineral aftertaste and fine fruitiness that reflects the stony character of the terroir.
- Terroir & Origin
- The vineyard site Morei in Campo Rotaliano near Mezzolombardo encompasses 2.5 hectares of alluvial silt. Protective rock walls shield the vineyard from cold northerly winds, whilst the rock radiates stored warmth at night. The stony, dense, dark soil shapes the mineral character of this extraordinary Teroldego.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- The autochthonous grape variety Teroldego was aged for eight months on the skins in Spanish 420-litre Tinajas. After harmonisation in concrete tanks, one third of the wine matured for a further twelve months in smaller 330-litre Cilindricas (cylindrical amphorae) – this time without skins. This extended amphora ageing makes the Cilindrica the reserve among Foradori’s amphora wines.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Excellent with duck ragù with pasta, beetroot risotto or a lentil salad with roasted carrots, pomegranate seeds and spicy labneh. The magnum bottle is perfect for larger gatherings.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle guarantees optimal ageing conditions. The moderate alcohol content of 12.5% vol. underscores Foradori’s philosophy of elegance and drinkability. Decant by all means!
