The Clos Venturi winery is located in the small village of Ponte-Leccia in the municipality of Morosaglia, about 50 kilometres southwest of the capital Bastia. The wines of François Aquaviva, Jean-Marc and Manu Venturi uniquely combine continental freshness with Mediterranean ripeness, made possible by the exceptional altitude of the vineyards on sandstone, basalt, granite and blue slate. The 2020 Altare is a cuvée of Viancu Gentile, Genovese Vermentinu and Rimenese, spontaneously fermented in large barrels.

Nose

The nose of the 2020 Altare blanc from Clos Venturi is a conglomerate of fruits, stones and Mediterranean scrub that is in constant flux like a kaleidoscope. Ripe yellow fruits like apricots and peaches with citrusy top notes of orange zest combine with herbal notes of fennel and chamomile and mild spices in the overtone. Mace and distinctive cedary notes of white pepper make the wheel go round in circles.

Mouth

On the palate, the Altare also has the silkiness that is characteristic of Clos Venturi wines, with a creamy melt and salty minerality, but at the same time a taut stature and sinewy character. One could almost think it was bursting with inner tension, so impetuously does it show itself in its youthful stage. The fine fruit is disciplined by the distinctive mineral notes and accompanied by animatingly tart tannins that tie up its phenolic corset tightly. An absolute perennial that is already a joy to drink, but will only reach its peak in a few years.
