Niepoorts Bioma Vintage from old vines represents the Purist approach of a house that is dedicated to authentic port wine tradition has dedicated itself to. The 2016 vintage produced concentrated, structured wines in the Douro Valley. With 19.5% alcohol and a pronounced residual sweetness, this Vintage Port shows the typical Power and opulence of a declarative vintage, but combines the characteristic Niepoort Elegance and freshness. The designation „Vinha Velha“ refers to old vines, which naturally produce low yields and Exceptional concentration deliver.

Terroir & origin

The Douro Valley with its steep slate terraces and extreme microclimate produces port wines of unique intensity. The old vineyards from which this Bioma originates are deeply rooted in the metamorphic slate, which lends minerality and structure. Niepoort cultivates these parcels with biodynamic principles - hence the name „Bioma“ - and respects the natural balance of the ecosystem. The continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters characterises the concentration and aromas.

Grape variety & vinification

The classic Douro assemblage from Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and the rare Tinto Cão embodies the essence of traditional port wine production. Touriga Franca contributes structure and floral notes, Tinta Roriz brings fruitiness and tannin structure, while Tinto Cão - an almost forgotten variety from old vineyards - is responsible for the flavour. Finesse and longevity provides. The vinification follows traditional methods with Foot stomping in Lagares, followed by infusion and maturation in old wooden barrels. The half-bottle size (375ml) is ideal for enjoying with friends.
