Colour & appearance

Luminous Cherry Red in the glass, clear and brilliant - a wine that already visually announces its youthfulness and freshness.

Nose

The Atlantic influence of the 2018 vintage decisively characterises the bouquet: crunchy blueberry and fresh cherry dominate with impressive clarity. Nothing overripe, no southern opulence - instead a pure, almost electrifying freshness that immediately whets the appetite.

Palate

The freshness of the nose continues seamlessly and gains even more precision on the palate. The 15 per cent Viura play a subtle but decisive role here: they give the Tempranillo additional tension and vibrancy. Roberto Oliván has deliberately dispensed with extraction - the focus is on Finesse instead of power. The fine-grained tannin gives the wine a grippy but never intrusive texture. Despite 14 per cent alcohol, the Xérico has an astonishing effect lively and almost light.

Departure

Juicy and animating - Exactly how a modern Rioja should be. The fruit remains present without dominating and leaves a refreshing, easy-drinking impression.

Terroir & origin

A local wine from Viñaspre in Rioja Alavesa, from 15 to 50 year old vines on predominantly calcareous soils. The Atlantic character of the 2018 vintage gives this terroir a special freshness.

Grape variety & vinification

85 per cent Tempranillo, 15 per cent Viura - an unusual but brilliant combination. The grapes are partly destemmed and partly fermented with stems. The wine is matured exclusively in Concrete, This preserves the purity and freshness of the wine and prevents the emergence of wood-driven flavours.

Food pairing suggestions

Perfect for Lamb chops from the grill or Grilled peppers. The freshness and finesse of the wine also harmonise perfectly with Tapas, Chorizo or medium-aged Manchego.
