Wine Description for Pointe du Jour IGP 2021 by Flo Busch
- Colour & Appearance
- Dense, saturated purple with delicate violet reflections – a wine that already displays its youthful power in the glass.
- Nose
- Seductively dark and spicy, yet never heavy or intrusive. The fruit elegantly shifts between preserved morello cherries, cassis and elderflower, complemented by blackberry and raspberry. Beneath lies a fascinating Mediterranean spice layer: pine bark, white pepper, mint and rosemary combine into a balsamic-ethereal aromatic complex of impressive depth.
- Palate
- Concentrated and precise, with a focused aromatic stream that strikes the palate like an arrow hitting the bullseye. Full and powerful, yet of remarkable lightness of touch. The nonchalant drinkability belies the high level on display – here contemporary Mediterranean red wine reaches its peak. The Carignan imparts a mystical, dark depth that gives the wine personality and tension.
- Finish
- Invigorating and persistent, with spicy accents and a refreshing balance between fruit and Mediterranean herbal notes.
- Terroir & Origin
- The vines grow near Mont Baudile on diverse soils: Syrah on limestone scree, Grenache on pebbles and quartz, Carignan on blue and yellow marl with sandstone and river pebbles. This diversity of terroirs is reflected in the wine’s complexity.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Blend of Syrah, Grenache Noir and Carignan. Following approximately 14 days of skin contact with remontage and pigeage, spontaneous fermentation occurs with natural yeasts. Neither fining nor filtration, minimal sulphur use (under 30mg/l total) – an authentic, unadorned expression of Languedoc.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Perfect with grilled lamb rack with green beans and mint, baked potatoes with parsley, anchovies and olives or surprisingly also with pan-fried red mullet with kohlrabi and red wine onions.
- Special Characteristics
- A natural wine with ambition and style, demonstrating that minimal intervention need not come at the expense of precision and elegance. Flo Busch achieves here a contemporary Mediterranean red wine of impressive drinkability.
