Wine Description for Mason di Mason DOC 2022 by Manincor

Character
The Mason di Mason embodies Manincor’s ambitious vision of a South Tyrolean Pinot Noir that places elegance before power. Hailing from the 2022 vintage, this wine presents itself with Burgundian finesse and that crystalline clarity which the terroir between Kaltern and Lake Kaltern so characteristically brings forth. The dry expression underscores the purist approach of the estate.
Terroir & Origin
Manincor manages its vineyards at Lake Kaltern in one of South Tyrol’s warmest zones, where Mediterranean microclimate meets alpine coolness. The calcareous moraine soils with porphyry and alluvial components lend the Pinot Noir that mineral tension which sets it apart from more opulent interpretations. The estate works according to biodynamic principles and relies on natural biodiversity – an approach that is reflected in the precision and authenticity of its wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir, the most demanding of all red grape varieties, finds ideal conditions in South Tyrol: cool nights preserve the aromatics, whilst sunny days ensure physiological ripeness. Manincor vinifies with minimalist signature – spontaneous fermentation, careful extraction and ageing in larger wooden barrels allow the terroir to take precedence. The Mason di Mason stands for a restrained, terroir-focused style that has more in common with Côte de Beaune than with New World opulence.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This Pinot Noir calls for cuisine that respects its subtlety: roasted duck with red cabbage, veal schnitzel with porcini mushrooms or aged mountain cheese from local production. It also shows its versatility with char from South Tyrolean waters or risotto with radicchio. The combination with game – such as venison loin with lingonberries – underscores its elegant structure.
