Wine description for Mason di Mason DOC 2022 from Manincor

Character

The Mason di Mason represents Manincor's interpretation of Pinot Noir in Alpine South Tyrol - a grape variety that thrives here on cool nights, intense sunshine and calcareous soils. The 2022 vintage benefited from a wine year with moderate temperatures that favoured freshness and elegance. This dry cuvée displays the typical finesse that characterises South Tyrolean Pinot Noir: restrained in its fruit, precise in its structure, with that cool minerality that makes the terroir of Lake Kaltern so unmistakable.

Winemakers and terroir

Manincor is one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in South Tyrol and cultivates its vineyards on Lake Kaltern with great respect for nature. The Goëss-Enzenberg family has developed the estate into one of the leading addresses for authentic, terroir-influenced wines. The name Mason refers to the historic vineyards surrounding the estate - sites that have been known for centuries for their suitability for demanding grape varieties. The combination of South Tyrolean altitude, the Mediterranean influence of nearby Lake Garda and the estate's biodynamic philosophy fundamentally characterises these wines.

Stylistics

Manincor takes an approach to Pinot Noir that emphasises elegance over power. Instead of lush fruitiness and heavy extraction, the focus here is on transparency - a wine that speaks its region of origin, not the cellar. The dry focus emphasises the serious nature of this wine, which is based on Burgundian models without copying them.

Food recommendations

The Mason di Mason is a classic accompaniment to roast duck, Veal medallions or matured mountain cheese from the region. Also to Mushroom dishes and autumn risottos this Pinot Noir shows its strengths. The freshness of the vintage also makes it an interesting partner for Tuna or lightly smoked fish specialities.
