Wine information
The unique location of Mazzon, nicknamed "Mason" by Manincor, prevents confusion with the larger area above Neumarkt. Pinot Nero thrives on four hectares in this exclusive position. A southward sloping high plateau at 400-450 m above sea level, paradisiacally pampered by the sun and always kissed by the wind - a picture for divine Pinot grapes. Colourful soil with sandy loam interwoven with diverse stones ranging from dolomite, porphyry, gneiss and granite - a mixture that varies from tiny grains to fist-sized pieces.
Extension details
Each unit of quantity from the different parcels was carefully vinified in a single vineyard approach. The must fermentation took place in wooden vats, in a natural way with the grapes' own yeasts. Maceration lasted two weeks, during which the must was submerged once a day. Maturation in oak barrels for 16 months, with only 20% of new wood added, kept the wine constantly on the lees. After this phase, the individual parcels were blended and the best barrels from the highest parcel with the oldest vines were selected for the Mason di Mason.
Color
A tonal centre of subdued cherry red with distinct brightening at the rim.
Nose
There is a lot of subtlety in the 2019 Mason di Mason. Pure fruit aromas of sour cherry, red currant, young plums and raspberry jam caress the nose. A subtle cedar note, a hint of cinnamon and latte add seamlessly. Its mature appearance suits it well, at the same time it radiates an incredible lightness and youthfulness.
Palate
It is also refreshing in taste, underlining its perfect state in 2019 still in a youthful state. A red wine that goes wonderfully with vegetables and fish dishes. A real pleasure!
