Wine Description for Mason di Mason DOC 2019 1500ml Magnum by Manincor
- Colour & Appearance
- Medium, slightly muted cherry red with characteristic lightening towards the rim – a classic appearance for Pinot Noir from higher altitude sites, promising elegance and finesse.
- Nose
- This Mason di Mason presents itself with an enchanting delicacy. Sour cherry, redcurrant and raspberry jam form the fruity foundation, complemented by notes of young plum. The subtle oak maturation reveals itself in fine cedarwood nuances, a hint of cinnamon and coffee with milk – perfectly integrated, never dominant. A nose that masterfully combines maturity with youthful playfulness.
- Palate
- On the palate, the true class of this Pinot Noir unfolds: stimulating, lively, with a structure that promises further development potential. The red fruit carries through, supported by a silky texture and perfectly integrated tannins. Remarkable is the versatility – this wine harmonises not only with classic meat dishes, but also with vegetables and fish, which underscores its finesse.
- Finish
- Medium to long, with persistent fruit freshness and fine spice. The acidity remains present and invigorating, without being intrusive.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Mason (Mazzon) vineyard site is a high plateau at 400-450 m altitude, sloping south, sun-blessed and constantly exposed to wind – ideal conditions for Pinot Noir. The sandy loam soil is interspersed with dolomite, porphyry, gneiss and granite, which lends the wine its mineral complexity. Manincor cultivates four hectares of this unique South Tyrolean vineyard site with the highest precision.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Pure Pinot Noir from the oldest vines of the highest-altitude parcel. Spontaneous fermentation in wooden vats, two-week maceration with daily punch-down of the pomace cap. 16 months maturation in barriques (only 20% new wood) on fine lees. Parcel-by-parcel vinification with final selection of the best barrels – craftsmanship at the highest level.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Grilled sea bream with beetroot, Jerusalem artichoke salad with cranberries, beef fillet strips with wild herb salad and raspberries, seared tuna, duck breast roasted medium-rare, mushroom risotto or aged mountain cheese.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle (1500ml) promises optimal ageing conditions and longer ageing potential. A South Tyrolean Pinot Noir that proves that great Burgundy interpretations can also emerge south of the Alps.
