Wine information
Velue is the old name of the village of Velm-Goetzendorf and also of the willows that grow along the streams in the village. The Muscat Blanc à Petit Grains is a selection from all of Zillinger's Muscat vineyards. The grapes were harvested by hand on 12 September 2022, stomped with the feet and left on the skins for six hours. They were then pressed and fermented spontaneously. Ageing took place in large used tonneaux and in stainless steel for seven months on the lees. The wine was bottled in March 2023 with 35 mg total sulphur, 3.1 pH and 1 gram of residual sugar.
Color
Slightly cloudy, light straw yellow
Nose
The scent of the Velue Muscatel is characterised by notes such as jasmine, lilac and roses. The floral notes combine with citrus and limequat zest and juice, some green and yellow apple, lichen on wet stone and dried herbs.
Palate
On the palate, the Muscat is playfully light and juicy, then again serious with a fine, savoury and tart note of bitter orange peel, herbs and rocks. The acidity appears ripe and rather restrained at first, but quickly picks up speed and becomes increasingly present towards the finish. It provides the agility in this wine, while the maceration time of the grapes has given the wine its tactile character.
