Wine Description for El Mas de l’A. Tot-Ú 2021 by Portal del Priorat
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous cherry red with bright, almost transparent reflections and a charming, light cloudiness – a first indication of the natural, unfiltered character of this wine.
- Nose
- The nose is immediate and seductive: intense sour cherry, bright and gripping, threaded through with smoky, almost bacon-like notes that lend the wine a wild, untamed depth. Juniper, black pepper and pimento add spicy accents, whilst delicate notes of raspberry and redcurrant round out the fruit. Red and dark flowers lay an elegant, slightly mysterious veil over the whole – complex, yet never overloaded.
- Palate
- On the palate, the Tot-Ú reveals itself as cool, juicy and invigorating. Crisp bright cherry fruit dominates, supported by a lively astringency that stretches the wine and creates tension. The smoky-spicy character remains present without being intrusive. The slender body and cool mouthfeel make it a wine of genuine drinking pleasure.
- Finish
- Long and invigorating, with lingering spice and fresh fruit. A wine that demands the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- From the heart of Priorat, one of Spain’s most demanding and characterful wine regions. The estate Mas de l’A unites a remarkable diversity of soil types: clay, slate, limestone and marl – each contributes its part to the complexity of this wine.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- An assemblage masterpiece from old and rare varieties: Garnacha Peluda, Garnacha Gris, Garnacha Blanca, Garnacha Negra, Trepat, Cariñena and further varietals. Free-run juices from white and red wines as well as maceration fermentations of various Grenache mutations are united in stainless steel tanks, bottled after natural sedimentation at the earliest after eight months. Minimal intervention, maximum expression. Winemaker Alfredo Arribas calls it the „enfant terrible“ of fine wines – and rightly so.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Ideal with beetroot with soured cream and dill, with grilled redfish with aubergine-tomato sauce or with braised chicken legs with harissa and chickpeas. Its versatility and freshness make it the ideal companion for Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.
- Special Features
- With only 12.5% alcohol, the Tot-Ú belongs to those rare wines from Priorat that prioritise elegance and drinkability over power and concentration. A wine for the curious – and for all those who wish to discover Priorat beyond its opulent side.
