Wine Description for Eichhorn DOC 2022 1500ml Magnum by Manincor
- Colour & Appearance
- Medium straw yellow with vibrant, radiant reflections – a wine that already promises clarity and precision in the glass.
- Nose
- The nose immediately transports you to a South Tyrolean orchard: green apple, small pear and ripe melon form the fruity core, underpinned by delicate linden blossom and lemon balm. Kitchen herbs such as chervil and borage lend the bouquet a fine, invigorating spice – multifaceted, yet never overwhelming.
- Palate
- The entry on the palate is disciplined and precise – no indulgent fruit spectacle, but rather focused extract with dry, clear definition. Delicate tannins provide structure, whilst a ripe, cleanly crafted acidity spine carries the wine with elegance.
- Finish
- Fruity-cool, long and characterised by pleasant freshness. A finish that invites the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from the renowned Terlan vineyard site Lieben Aich and the eponymous Eichhorn vineyard – a south-west facing slope at 300 metres above sea level with soils of sandy loam on weathered porphyry. This terroir shapes the wine with mineral tension and aromatic finesse.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder) in its South Tyrolean finest form. The destemmed grapes underwent an eight-hour skin contact period, before the must fermented spontaneously in wood and subsequently aged for nine months on fine lees. This careful handcrafted work explains the wine’s remarkable depth and texture. The large-format magnum bottle (1500 ml) favours slower, more harmonious maturation.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- A versatile table companion: excellent with Spaghetti Frutti di Mare, equally convincing with corn-fed chicken breast with lemon, herbs and black olives or the vegetarian braised fennel with raisins, olives and pine nuts.
- Special Features
- As a magnum bottling, this Eichhorn is not merely a pleasure wine, but also an experience wine – ideal for special occasions and convivial gatherings. The slow maturation process in the larger format promises additional complexity with increasing cellar time.
