It was love at first sight when Xavier Rolet, a highly successful Provençal in the international financial world, acquired the Domaine La Verrière high up in the Dentelles de Montmirail, near Gigondas, in 1993. The completely isolated estate at an altitude of 550 metres with its 18th century bastide was in desolate condition. With his American wife Nicole, his sister and his brother-in-law, he brought it back to life. The 30 hectares of vineyards, mainly Grenache and Syrah, were restored according to biodynamic principles and supplemented with white varieties. The clay-limestone, very stony soils, rich in minerals and basalt, and the long ripening periods at altitude give all the wines offered under Chêne Bleu unmistakable terroir character with southern concentration and northern freshness. Every last detail is taken into account by the family to enhance the natural diversity of the estate and the expression of its wines.
