Wine Description for Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse AOC 2023 1500ml Magnum by Thomas Morey

Character
A Premier Cru from the heart of the Côte de Beaune, embodying the classical elegance and mineral depth of Chassagne-Montrachet. As a magnum bottling, this wine promises particularly harmonious maturation and exceptional ageing potential – the larger bottle volume slows development and gives the wine time to unfold its full complexity.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Vide Bourse lies in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, where calcareous soils with clay layers create a distinctive mineral tension. The vintage 2023 is regarded in Burgundy as exceptionally warm and sunny, resulting in natural ripeness and fullness – combined with attentive vineyard work, a wine of substance and freshness emerged.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay is at home in Chassagne-Montrachet like nowhere else in the world. Thomas Morey, son of the legendary Bernard Morey, stands for a precise, carefully crafted style: gentle hand-harvesting, careful pressing and thoughtful oak ageing that emphasises the varietal character of Chardonnay without overworking it. The alcohol content of 13.0% vol. points to a balanced equilibrium between ripeness and freshness.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine of this calibre deserves an equally distinguished table. Recommended pairings include lobster with beurre blanc, grilled turbot or scallops with saffron sauce. It also harmonises beautifully with sweetbreads, creamy risotto dishes or a mature Comté. The magnum bottle makes this wine an ideal companion for a festive dinner with a larger gathering.
