Nose

A generous opening packed with ripe fruit notes ranging from apple to plum. Delicate accents of caramel and pale butter biscuits add complexity. With a bit of air, the bouquet tightens, revealing a more focused aromatic profile.

Palate

On the palate, this Riesling is dense, strikingly mature and masterfully structured. Despite its modest alcohol content of 12.0% ABV, it possesses remarkable balance and a rich, textured presence.

Finish

The finish impresses with outstanding length, sustained by a subtle, exotic touch.

Terroir & Origin

Sourced from the Mautern vineyard ‘vom Stein’, a sheltered parcel within the Silberbichl site in the Wachau. Situated at an altitude of 209 to 237 metres, this north-northeast facing slope is characterized by deep trench-spaded soils with clay, loess and Danube gravel.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Pure varietal character within the stylistic framework of the Federspiel category. As Austria’s oldest Demeter-certified winery, Nikolaihof traditionally relies on spontaneous fermentation in large oak casks within its historic vaulted cellar.

Food Pairings

Pairs beautifully with mature mountain cheese, pan-fried trout meunière or classic Tafelspitz (boiled beef) with apple horseradish.
