Wine description for Reserva 2010 1500ml Magnum from Remirez de Ganuza

Colour & appearance
Deep purple-red with violet reflections and an impenetrable black core - a wine that already visually announces its concentration and power.
Nose
A monumental spectrum of flavours that rewards patience. The first impression belongs to the Wood - present, but never dominant. A multi-layered bouquet of flavours unfolds underneath Black cherries, Blackberries and Plum jam. Vanilla, Allspice and black pepper pervade the bouquet, while a fine Smoky flavour floats. Mediterranean herbs such as Thyme and Savory lend complexity, plus Cinnamon blossoms and Elderberries. Be sure to decant - this wine needs air.
Palate
Born from vines that are over 60 years old, this Reserva combines Power and finesse in remarkable balance. After sufficient aeration, the dominant flavour is Extract-sweet fruit, elegantly framed by the precise use of wood. Liquorice and Blueberry pulp meet cool mineral notes that lend the wine a kaleidoscopic versatility. A fine acid nerve provides direction and pace. Despite its opulence, the wine remains surprisingly tidy and structured.
Departure
Long, savoury and persistent - the fruit lingers for a long time, supported by a fine tannin structure and a lingering spiciness.
Grape variety & vinification
Mainly Tempranillo with a share Graciano, which contributes structure and flavour. The ageing in wood is noticeable but integrated - an example of modern Rioja style with respect for tradition. The magnum format promises optimal ageing conditions.
Food pairing suggestions
A wine for sophisticated pairings: Shoulder of venison with blackberries, mint and yoghurt, Mullet fried on the skin with aubergine puree or surprisingly also Smoked tofu with dark pepper miso and shii take. The power of the wine can handle intense flavours and roasted substances.
Special features
The 1.5-litre magnum is not only a statement, but also guarantees slower, more harmonious ageing. This 2010 can be enjoyed now - provided you take time for decanting and aeration - or mature for another 10 to 15 years without any problems.
