Wine Description for Pi Vell Côtes Catalanes blanc IGP 2021 by Roc des Anges

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow with greenish reflections, crystal clear in the glass – the transparency already reveals the winemaker’s purist signature.
Nose
Restrained and precise: white flowers, lemon zest and a hint of fennel. The aromatics are rather ethereal than opulent, with a fine mineral coolness that recalls wet stones after a summer rain. No oak notes, no butter – just concentrated fruit and stone.
Palate
Here the Pi Vell reveals its true personality. The attack is focused and clear, then the wine rapidly gains momentum. The vibrant acidity is carried by a striking saline minerality that lends the wine an almost sinewy structure. The mouthfeel is remarkable: astringent without being harsh, with a palate-tingling texture that perfectly balances tension and drinkability. At 12.5% alcohol it remains light-footed, but by no means thin – rather muscular-lean than athletic.
Finish
Long, cool and precise. The saline aftertaste lingers for minutes, accompanied by a refreshing citrus note. No heaviness, no sweetness – just clear, linear elegance.
Terroir & Origin
From Roussillon, a region between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees, where barren soils and the Catalan climate produce wines of extraordinary minerality. Roc des Anges counts among the pioneers of natural winemaking in this underrated corner of southern France.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Macabeu (also called Macabeo), a traditional Catalan grape variety that finds its purest expression here. Presumably spontaneously fermented and aged in steel tank to preserve the crystalline purity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This wine demands purist cuisine: raw oysters, ceviche, grilled sea bass with sea salt, goat’s cheese or simply spaghetti alle vongole. The wine’s salinity harmonises perfectly with seafood.
Special Characteristics
A wine for purists and lovers of lean, mineral-driven white wines. Those seeking richness and opulence are in the wrong place – those who appreciate precision and drinkability will be rewarded.
