Wine Description for Pinot Blanc W-S 2024 from Domaine Albert Mann

Colour & Appearance
Pale yellow with distinctive green reflections – a youthful, fresh appearance in the glass that already visually hints at its granite soil origins.
Nose
Subtle and multi-layered, this Pinot Blanc presents itself with juicy pear and apple, underpinned by pineapple notes. The pronounced minerality of the granite terroir runs through the aromatic profile like a golden thread, accompanied by delicate flowers. With air contact – a decanter is worthwhile – fine anise and ginger notes unfold. Everything is elegantly interwoven, nothing is obtrusive. A wine that impresses through restraint and finesse.
Palate
On the palate, the 2024 vintage reveals its full class: the juicy fruit from the nose returns, accompanied by fresh acidity and a distinctly saline character – typical of the granite soils of Wineck-Schlossberg. At only 12.5% alcohol, the wine feels remarkably restrained and plays virtuously with its various facets. A fine tannin adds additional texture and drinking pleasure.
Finish
Long-lasting with a mineral aftertaste and a saline note that invites the next sip. The fine tannin provides structure right to the end.
Terroir & Origin
The vines are rooted in the Grand Cru Wineck-Schlossberg in Katzenthal on granite soil – a terroir that gives this Pinot Blanc its characteristic minerality and tension. The vines, averaging 40 years old, bring the necessary depth and complexity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hand-harvested and gently pressed with pneumatic press. Maturation in stainless steel with natural yeasts, bottled in spring without fining – a purist vinification that gives precedence to terroir and fruit.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A classic Alsatian food wine: Perfect with flammekuchen, quiche lorraine, pan-fried zander, scallops, poultry terrine or goat’s cheese. The saline minerality harmonises beautifully with seafood and sushi.
Special Features
A Pinot Blanc from Grand Cru vineyard sites – unusual and ambitious. Domaine Albert Mann impressively demonstrates how much potential lies in this often underestimated grape variety when terroir and craftsmanship are right.
