Wine description for Tattouine VdF rouge 2023 by Matassa
- Colour & Appearance
- A luminous, quite transparent cherry red, which already visually announces the lightness and freshness of this extraordinary wine.
- Nose
- Fruity-herbal and refreshing, the Tattouine presents itself with aromas of red apples with skin, peaches and red berries. These are joined by notes of undergrowth, herbs and a hint of amaro, which lends a fascinating depth to the bouquet.
- Palate
- On the palate, the 2023 unfolds remarkable energy: crisp acidity, saline, juicy and remarkably powerful despite its mere 10% alcohol. The present tannins lend a gripping texture that glides lightly across the palate. The wine dances with its tart red berry and sour cherry notes, remaining herbaceous and bitter whilst awakening the senses. Immensely juicy right through to the final sip.
- Finish
- Lively and persistent, with fine herbal spice and a refreshing acidity that invites the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- From Roussillon, one of France’s most exciting wine regions, comes this unconventional wine from vines up to 100 years old. The combination of Carignan, Grenache Noir and Grenache Gris from these old vines gives the wine its special depth and complexity.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Beginning with carbonic maceration with whole bunches, then three weeks in concrete for complete fermentation, followed by nine months ageing in old demi-muids. This gentle vinification preserves the freshness and vibrancy of the fruit.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Perfect with chipirones with goat’s cheese and grilled herbs, toasted bread with black pudding and parsley or a tomato tarte tatin with goat’s cheese, olives and thyme. Also excellent as an aperitif or with light summer dishes.
- Special Features
- At just 10% alcohol, a remarkably light yet far from inconsequential wine. Tom Lubbe of Matassa impressively demonstrates that great wines need not be heavy – an agile, lively red wine that embodies pure drinking pleasure.
