Colour & Appearance

Transparent, luminous ruby red – clear and of remarkable brightness that announces the elegance and purity of this wine even before the first sip.

Nose

The nose is simply seductive – and rare enough that one cannot help but think of the great vineyard sites of the Côte de Nuits, without ever forgetting Piedmont. Fresh rose petals and sandalwood open the bouquet, accompanied by a hint of finest oak and discreet vanilla. Beneath shimmer cherries, raspberries, a touch of lavender and mint, carried by an undertone of dry forest floor and undergrowth. Complex, yet never overloaded.

Palate

On the palate, the Roncagliette unfolds with a sovereignty that distinguishes great Nebbiolo: silky, juicy and of hovering transparency. The power is undeniable – 14% alcohol – yet it is completely tamed by a cool, invigorating freshness. Dried cherries and wild strawberries dominate the palate, only lightly earthed. The tannin is fine-grained and assertive, the acidity brilliant and firmly integrated. A wine with genuine backbone that simultaneously feels loose and relaxed – a rare combination.

Finish

Long, precise and carried by fine tannin. The finish resonates with notes of cherries, minerality and a hint of floral freshness – lingering, clear and with considerable ageing potential.

Terroir & Origin

The grapes come from a small parcel in the cru Roncagliette in Barbaresco – something of Olek Bondonio’s front garden. The 50-year-old vines are rooted in heavy clay over blue marl at 350 metres altitude. A terroir that writes depth, structure and mineral tension into the wine.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Pure Nebbiolo, vinified with consistent craftsmanship and minimal intervention. Fermentation in concrete vessels, two-month maceration with submerged cap, gentle pressing on the basket press. At least two years maturation in large wooden vats. Bottled unfiltered, unrefined, with only approximately 40 mg/l total sulphur. Artisanal purity at the highest level.

Food Pairing Suggestions

A wine of this calibre demands equally worthy partners: tajarin with white truffle, braised lamb shank, Brasato al Barolo or a mature Parmigiano Reggiano. The magnum bottle makes it the ideal companion for a grand dinner.
