Barrat-Masson is still a young Champagne project, founded in 2010 by Loïc Barrat and his wife Aurélie Masson. The two are based on the Côte de Sézanne, just south of the Côte des Blancs. They cultivate seven hectares of chalk and clay soils there, which have been certified organic since 2012. The Blanc de Blancs in particular come from the highly chalky soils, while the Pinot Noir is cultivated on more clayey soils. Their wines reflect the terroir of the Sézannais very clearly and precisely, are juicy and definitely fruity, but also fresh and powerful, and there is always at least a hint of wood.
