Wine description for La Vigne d'Or, Brut Nature, Blanc de Meuniers 2009 from Tarlant

Visual impression

In the glass, this rare Blanc de Meuniers presents itself in a radiant golden yellow with amber-coloured reflections. The fine, precise perlage rises in elegant lines and forms a delicate rim at the edge of the glass - a visual testimony to the long ageing process in the bottle.

Nose

The fragrance initially unfolds with restrained elegance, almost contemplative, before revealing its true complexity. Ripe quinces and lager apples dominate, underpinned by subtle notes of brioche, toasted almonds and a fine spiciness reminiscent of fennel pollen and cubeb pepper. With air, a fascinating oxidative note develops, reminiscent of the great Jura wines - a reference to the seven months in Burgundian oak barrels.

Palate

The true mastery of this wine is revealed on the palate. The first impression is characterised by a silky texture and impressive richness - typical of an excellent Meunier. But then comes an unexpected twist: The precise, taut acidity structure pushes itself to the fore and gives the wine a breathtaking tension. The minerality of the calcareous clay soil of Œuilly manifests itself in a salty precision that carries the wine through its long, complex finish. The absence of dosage emphasises the purity of the terroir and the quality of the exceptional 2009 vintage.

General information

Food pairing suggestions

The complexity and structure of this champagne calls for sophisticated accompaniments. It harmonises excellently with fried scallop at Celery puree, Lobster with saffron butter or a Mushroom risotto with porcini mushrooms. Also to matured Comté or Beaufort it forms a fascinating liaison. The subtle oxidation note makes it the ideal partner for Dishes with morels or Truffle.
