Wine Description for Il Conte IGT 2023 1500ml Magnum by Manincor

Character
Manincor’s Il Conte embodies modern South Tyrolean red wine culture in its most approachable form. This Cuvée of Lagrein, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot unites alpine freshness with Mediterranean fruit abundance – a wine that perfectly reflects South Tyrol’s geographical bridge function between north and south. The magnum bottle underscores the convivial character of this unpretentious, yet by no means simple red wine.
Terroir & Origin
The Manincor estate on Lake Kaltern ranks among the quality pioneers of the region. The vineyard sites benefit from the Überetsch’s exceptional climate: warm days, cool nights and the moderating influence of the lake create ideal conditions for structured red wines with elegance. The IGT classification allows winemakers the freedom to compose international and indigenous varieties – a liberty that Manincor exercises with discernment.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The combination of indigenous Lagrein and the Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is characteristic of South Tyrol’s modern wine scene. Lagrein contributes dark berry fruit and earthy spice, Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and blackcurrant notes, whilst Merlot delivers silky texture and approachability. The moderate alcohol content of 13% and the dry vinification speak to a wine that prioritises drinkability and harmony – typical of Manincor’s philosophy of elegance over opulence.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to alpine cuisine: excellent with venison ragout, braised beef cheeks or bacon dumplings with brown butter. The wine’s freshness also harmonises beautifully with grilled vegetables, polenta with mushrooms or semi-aged cheeses such as mountain cheese. The magnum bottle is ideal for convivial gatherings with rustic braised dishes or an Italian barbecue.
