Wine Description for 4 éléments Pinot Noir La Perthe Extra Brut 2018 by Huré Frères

Character
A Blanc de Noirs Champagne of impressive precision and depth. Huré Frères belong to those growers in Champagne who, with their „4 éléments“ line, uncompromisingly place terroir at the forefront. This Extra Brut from pure Pinot Noir from the single vineyard site La Perthe showcases the serious, structured side of Champagne – mineral, tense and with the characteristic reduction that only low dosage and artisanal work can achieve.
Terroir & Origin
The Huré family manages their vineyards in Ludes in Montagne de Reims, a region renowned for powerful, structured Pinot Noirs. La Perthe is a specific parcel whose chalky soils give the wine its distinctive minerality and tension. Champagne’s cool climate and chalk soils create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir with elegance rather than opulence. The philosophy of Huré Frères is based on organic viticulture and minimal intervention – an approach reflected in the clarity and authenticity of their wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir shows its most refined face in Champagne. Vinified as a Blanc de Noirs – that is, pressed exclusively from dark grapes – this Champagne brings structure, depth and complexity. The Extra Brut dosage (under 6 g/l residual sugar) underscores the purity of the terroir and demands precise work in the vineyard. The 2018 vintage is considered well-balanced with good ripeness. Vinification likely takes place with spontaneous fermentation and ageing on the lees, which gives the wine additional texture and complexity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The structure and minerality of this Champagne call for equally precise cuisine: seared scallops, turbot with Champagne sauce, sweetbreads or poultry in light sauce. Also an excellent companion to aged Comté or Beaufort. The reduced dosage makes it an ideal aperitif for discerning palates.
