Colour & Appearance

Luminous straw yellow with a silvery shimmering rim – an optical promise of concentration and maturity.

Nose

This wine demands patience and a generous glass. Initially reserved, it unfolds with air contact an impressive aromatic discipline: sage, lemon balm and ginger meet the cedary notes of white pepper. These are joined by grapefruit zest, lemon blossom, blackcurrant leaf and green mango. Fascinating are the saline accents of oyster shells and wet chalk – a Sauvignon Blanc that redefines the variety.

Palate

Compressed power on the attack, almost austere in its density. Like a mille-feuille, the wine unfolds layer by layer on the palate. The acidity functions as a pulse, enveloped by a herbal-animating phenolic that grips assertively at the tongue’s edge. Extremely complex, with immense tension and high density whilst simultaneously displaying a defined, muscular, never heavy body. A wine that demands time – drinking it now would be sacrilege, yet it still brings enormous pleasure.

Finish

Long, mineral and characterised by persistent freshness. The phenolic leaves a gripping, slightly rough aftertaste that immediately entices you to the next sip.

Terroir & Origin

The Riede Zieregg ranks among the great STK vineyard sites of South Styria. The grapes come from the parcel „Die Sieben Reihen“ – extremely steep, perfectly ventilated, with blue limestone marl soil. Old vines with small, concentrated berries provide the raw material for this extraordinary reserve.

Grape Variety & Vinification

100% Sauvignon Blanc from old vines, hand-harvested and spontaneously fermented. Maturation takes place over 36 months in neutral oak barrels – an ageing period that gives the wine its remarkable complexity and structure.

Food Pairing Recommendations

Baked aubergine with pepper coulis and fennel yoghurt, silken tofu with peas and langoustine or rabbit loin with spring leeks and celery fumet. The wine tolerates complexity on the plate and showcases its strengths with demanding vegetarian as well as fish and meat dishes.

Special Characteristics
