Wine Description for Côtes du Jura Chardonnay AOP 2024 from Domaine Grand

Colour & Appearance
Medium golden yellow with remarkable intensity – the colour already reveals the complexity that this Chardonnay promises.
Nose
Fascinatingly multi-layered: sourdough crust and yeast meet hazelnut butter and fresh hazelnuts. These are joined by orange cream, pear and quince. The aromatics recall dried fruits and fresh butter – a scent profile that unmistakably bears the hallmark of the Savagnin casks.
Palate
Here the magic of the Jura reveals itself: A delicate flor yeast veil settles like a hazelnut infusion over the fresh, juicy body. The wine is lightly silky, yet clear and pure with a piquant salinity and vibrant zests. The balance between concentrated intensity and playful lightness is remarkable – a Chardonnay that unites substance with drinking pleasure.
Finish
Medium length with lingering nutty notes and a refreshing, slightly saline minerality.
Terroir & Origin
The vines are rooted in clay and limestone-rich marl of the Jura – that region renowned for its oxidative wine styles. This terroir lends the Chardonnay its characteristic minerality and structure.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chardonnay, fermented at low temperature and aged for eight months in casks that previously housed Savagnin under flor. This vinification is the key: the flor yeast aromatics from the predecessor wines subtly shape the Chardonnay without dominating it – an elegant homage to Jura tradition.
Food Pairing Suggestions
River fish such as trout or pike-perch in butter, Comté and other hard cheeses from the Jura, chicken in cream sauce, morels, scallops or also pan-fried turbot.
Special Features
A Chardonnay that bridges Burgundian elegance and the oxidative finesse of the Jura – authentic, characterful and with 13% alcohol pleasingly easy to drink.
