Wine information
The Porticello is the youngest wine of the Tenuta di Castellaro. 60 % Carricante and 40 % Moscato grow on the island of Lipari at an altitude of about 350 meters on mineral-rich volcanic sand. Direct pressing of the grapes in a pneumatic press, no clarification of the must, fermentation at 16°C, aging in large used barrels in which the yeast is stirred a few times during the four-month aging.
Colour
white gold with green reflexes
Nose
While in the last vintage the Moscato took the leading role with the spicy scent of nutmeg and roses, the combination of Carricante and Moscato leads the way in the 2018 Porticello rather to an idea of Pfälzer Riesling with notes of juicy ripe stone and pome fruit and also a slightly tart spiciness as well as some notes of herbs of the Macchia and a hint of almonds.
Mouth
On the palate, the nutmeg asserts itself with its expressive fruit and spice, which never seems intrusive in this wine, but always remains light, fresh and lively. The wine is bright, dry and infused with a clear acidity. The used wood and the aging on the fine lees give it a creamy texture, in addition to the saltiness of the island wine. The wine grows directly in the volcanic sand with a view of the sea and the sandy beach. You want to pack two bottles, your swimming trunks, glasses and a fresh summer salad.
