Nose

A monument to the underestimated grape variety. Unassuming, deep, self-contained – one is involuntarily reminded of the great Muscadets from Luneau-Papin. Ripe, white-fleshed stone fruit combines with apple and pear, along with fennel green, white flowers, a hint of gooseberry and a fine note of lanolin. More depth than loudness.

Palate

Here its true greatness reveals itself: this is a wine of texture and structure, not an aromatic marvel. Straightforward and precise, Heinz Velich combines tension with relaxation, a fine, long acidity arc with inner density. The refined texture is carried by fine salinity and a slightly gripping resistance – thanks to a hair-fine tannin from skin contact. A statement for the grape variety.

Finish

Long, piquantly herbal, with fine tannin and a saline minerality that lingers for a long time. Elegant and precise.

Terroir & Origin

From Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland, where old Welschriesling vines are rooted in ideal soils. Heinz Velich allows the grapes to ripen for a long time and harvests at precisely the right moment to preserve the fine aroma and maintain the characteristic acidity.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Old Welschriesling vines, after skin contact spontaneously fermented and aged in wooden barrels on the lees. This traditional method gives the wine its remarkable texture and complexity – far removed from simple Welschrieslings.

Poached char, pike-perch fillet with fennel vegetables, scallops, oysters, aged goat’s cheese, calf’s sweetbread with mushrooms or pan-fried porcini with parsley.
