Wine Description for Pinot Freyheit 2019 by Heinrich

Colour & Appearance
Brilliantly gleaming ruby red in the glass – a visual promise of elegance and finesse.
Nose
Initially, the reduction characteristic of Heinrich reveals itself, demanding patience. Yet those who allow the wine time in the decanter will be rewarded: raspberry, blackcurrant, sour cherry and cassis unfold with invigorating acidity. A delicate herbal spice threads through the aromatic interplay, surprisingly accentuated by subtle roasted notes reminiscent of roasted coffee beans – unconventional and fascinating.
Palate
Precise and straightforward on the attack. This is Pinot Noir for connoisseurs – or for those who wish to free themselves from convention. The sour cherry fruit now dominates with authority, embedded in a brilliant balance of juiciness and vibrant acidity. With just 12% alcohol, the wine presents itself remarkably lean and light-footed. The fine astringency creates invigorating movement on the palate, whilst a perceptible minerality lends length and depth.
Finish
Impressively persistent: red berries, fruit tea and a hint of lovage linger for minutes. A finish that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
From the Neusiedlersee in Burgenland, where the Pannonian climate and mineral-rich soils lend this Pinot its distinctive character. Gernot and Heike Heinrich are among Austria’s biodynamic pioneers.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, farmed biodynamically. The deliberately restrained maturation and moderate alcohol content underscore the winery’s philosophy: elegance over opulence, drinkability over power.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A versatile companion to pan-fried prawns with tomato essence, beetroot carpaccio with Fromage Blanc or venison loin tartare with pistachio cream. The lightness and acidity structure harmonise equally well with pan-fried salmon or mushroom dishes.
Special Characteristics
A wine that breaks with convention: lean, cool, invigorating. The name „Freyheit“ is a statement of intent – freedom from excessive extraction and oak influence. A manifesto for a modern, eminently drinkable Pinot style.
