Wine Description for Solerte IGT Terre Siciliane 2023 by Vino Lauria
- Colour & Appearance
- Sparkling golden yellow with brilliant, bright reflections – a typical expression of Mediterranean sunshine in the glass.
- Nose
- This Zibibbo (internationally known as Muscat of Alexandria) presents itself with impressive intensity. Mirabelle, apricot and peach dominate the aromatic profile, accompanied by a complex citrus spectrum of orange, grapefruit and blood orange, which skilfully oscillates between sweetness, bitter peel and freshness. Particularly charming: the pronounced floral notes of orange blossom and apple blossom. Exotic kiwi fruit lends warmth and opulence, whilst fennel seed, star anise and clove provide spicy complexity. Subtle Mediterranean herbs – marjoram and oregano – as well as delicate bread-like nuances round off the bouquet.
- Palate
- Here the Solerte reveals its true class: rather than lush fruitiness, it focuses on structure and balance. The compact, dense mouthfeel is carried by positive bitterness – robust, distinctive, honest. The fruit aromas blend elegantly with the bitter components, particularly the bitter orange and citrus notes remain present. Despite moderate acidity, the wine develops remarkable tension and drinkability. An unpretentious, characterful Sicilian with personality.
- Finish
- Medium-length and gently fading, with lingering floral and citrus-focused notes.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Zibibbo is Sicily’s aromatic answer to the great Muscat family. The variety thrives excellently in the island’s hot, dry climate and delivers at 12% alcohol an remarkably fresh, structured white wine – far removed from sweet Muscat clichés.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- An ideal companion to Mediterranean cuisine: grilled swordfish, pasta with sardines and fennel, caponata, fried courgette flowers or goat’s cheese with honey. Also an exciting choice with Asian dishes featuring coriander and ginger.
- Special Features
- An authentic, unvarnished Sicilian that prioritises structure over opulence – refreshingly different in a region that often tends towards overripeness. Excellent value for money for a characterful everyday wine with edges and character.
