Besides the fruit, it is warm, spicy notes that give the wine its well-known and typical elegance. On the palate, the 2016 Viñas de Gain is like velvet and silk, through which a flow of powerful acidity, vibrant minerality and juicy red fruit meanders.

Wine information

Artadis red Viñas de Gain is a local wine that comes from some of the best sites of Laguardia's vineyards such as San Martín, Las Ventas, Castejones, Ribaltayo or Viejo. The vineyards are located at 450 to 700 meters above sea level and are mainly characterized by clay in the topsoil and a limestone base. Although the wine comes from the centre of Rioja, you will find the term Rioja in vain since the 2015 vintage. Artadi has made his mark with the Consejo Regulador the Rioja overthrown because the quality claims of the board were considered to be too weak. Now, all wines are published as table wines. The grapes were harvested by hand in 10-kilo boxes. Fermentation was spontaneous after a 48-hour cold maceration and over 12 days in large stainless steel fermenters. The wine was aged for twelve months in the same French wood barrels in which the malolactic fermentation took place.

The 2016 vintage was defined by a mild winemaker and rainfall that replenished the water reservoir of the soils. The summer was warm and largely dry with high day and night temperature fluctuations. Thus, phenolic ripening took place in parallel with that of sugar levels.

Nose

At Viñas de Gain In 2016, red berries and ripe sour cherries dominate the nose, as is typical for the vintage. The wine appears transparent and juicy with an acid kick, but equally elegant and fine, thanks to the wood already perfectly integrated in the aroma, which provides a little smoke and vanilla. Besides the red fruit, there are nuances of milk chocolate that hint at a creaminess. In addition, there is some damp lime, which suggests a cool minerality.

Mouth

On the palate, the 2016 Viñas de Gain like velvet and silk, through which a flow of punchy acidity, vibrating minerality and juicy red fruit meanders. This red fruit seems so fresh, as if it had just been cut open. In addition to the fruit, it is warm, spicy notes that give the wine its familiar and typical elegance. A hint of cinnamon here, a touch of nutmeg there, a little candied blood orange peel and a liquid milk chocolate round off the impressive picture.
