Colour & appearance

Deep ruby red with violet reflections that emphasise the youthfulness of this 2020 vintage. Medium intensity with a clear, brilliant appearance in the glass.

Nose

Expressive bouquet with red fruits cherry and raspberry dominate, underpinned by subtle notes of dark chocolate and a hint of liquorice. The biodynamic cultivation is evident in the pure, unadulterated expression of the fruit, while subtle roasted flavours reveal the careful vinification.

Palate

On the palate, the San Lazaro presents itself with elegant structure and lively acidity. The 14.5% alcohol is perfectly integrated without being overpowering. Silky tannins envelop the fruit, while mineral notes emphasise the origin from the privileged Rioja vineyards. The finish is medium-long with lingering fruit and spice flavours.

General information

Artadi embodies the modern Rioja style par excellence. Since leaving the Rioja association in 2015, the winery has deliberately dispensed with the designation of origin and focussed on terroir expression. Biodynamic cultivation and the avoidance of excessive wood treatment allow the Tempranillo grape variety to speak in its purest form.

Food pairing suggestions

Excellent accompaniment to grilled lamb, Iberico pig or savoury tapas. Also to Manchego cheese and Chorizo an excellent choice. Its lively acidity makes it the ideal partner for Paella with meat or Stews with peppers.

The 2020 vintage benefits from an excellent harvest year and is already showing impressive drinking maturity, but has the potential for a further 8-10 years of ageing.
