Colour & Appearance

Classic ruby red with medium intensity – a Sangiovese that doesn’t deny its origins.

Nose

Precisely drawn aromatic interplay of black cherries, mulberries and blackberries, accentuated by a hint of cassis. The generous fruit is accompanied by mild spice notes such as juniper and allspice, complemented by light tobacco and delicate roasted nuances. A fruit-forward Rosso with irresistible drinking pleasure.

Palate

Supremely juicy on the attack – this wine redefines drinkability. The fine-grained, dense tannin structure shapes the texture like a bespoke garment. Rich in extract and almost meaty in character, the wine presents itself with youthful charm, whilst silky-refined tannins provide balance. The invigorating freshness of the 2021 vintage harmonises beautifully with the austere tannins.

Finish

Stimulating and herbaceous with an ethereal-fruity finale that lingers long.

Terroir & Origin

The grapes come from the vineyards of Pian dell’Orino and the central section of Pian Bassolino at elevations between 320 and 500 metres. A fascinating mosaic of calcareous clay, weathered marl, blue-grey Pliocene limestone and flysch soils lends this Rosso its complexity. Vines averaging 20 years of age.

Grape Variety & Vinification

100% Sangiovese, rigorous hand-harvesting with triple sorting. Spontaneous fermentation and just under two weeks of skin contact, followed by an impressive 25 months of ageing in 25-hectolitre oak barrels – an unusually long maturation period for a Rosso, which pays dividends in precision and elegance.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Ideal with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, Pappardelle al Ragù di Cinghiale, Pecorino Toscano or Ossobuco. Also a delight with grilled vegetables and herbs.
