Colour & Appearance

Radiant, intense golden yellow – a wine that already reveals its maturity and concentration visually.

Nose

Fascinatingly multi-layered: peach, apricot and mirabelle plum dominate initially, underpinned by precise citrus notes. Beneath this, a cool, almost stony minerality reminiscent of wet chalk. Floral accents of wild flowers and gorse as well as hints of hay and dry biscuit lend the bouquet remarkable complexity.

Palate

Here the wine reveals its most energetic side: cool freshness and a vibrant acidity drive the wine forward powerfully. Lemon and pronounced salinity dominate, whilst fresh peach provides fruity balance. Impressive pressure and tension on the palate – a Riesling that combines precision with substance.

Finish

Long, persistent and characterised by mineral salinity. The citrus freshness remains present and leaves an invigorating, almost electrifying impression.

Terroir & Origin

The grapes come from limestone slopes in the Wonnegau around Hohen-Sülzen and in the Zellertal – Rheinhessen’s most mineral vineyard sites. The limestone gives this Riesling its characteristic tension and salinity, which sets it apart from more fruit-driven interpretations.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Hand-harvested Riesling, strictly selected and spontaneously fermented. Maturation in large old double-piece oak casks with extended lees contact until spring. Subsequently aged in the winery’s underground natural cellar completed in 2020 – a project that underscores Battenfeld-Spanier’s commitment to perfect maturation conditions.

Food Pairing Recommendations

Predestined for crustaceans such as langoustines or lobster, equally suited to scallops and fine white fish such as turbot or sole. Also an excellent choice with sushi and ceviche.
